The real problem is that price is just too high for what you get. If they can sell it for under 9k in Europe, they can sell it that cheap over here, too. Same problem with the Spark, price is too close to the Sonic. Both cars need a 4-digit base price.

Also, a 150-hp Mirage VR4 would be awesome as fuck.

One of my friends from high school has a new Mirage hatch with the 5-speed. Don't write it off until you've driven one. The short wheelbase and skinny tires make it easy to toss around and chirp the tires, while still getting 40+ mpg. He got it for around $11K and for that price, it's hard to find another new car as fun to drive and economical as the Mirage.

Very true. Even though they're really unsafe compared to most modern cars, I'd like to buy one and turn it into a track car. It'd be ridiculously slow but I think it'd fit the slow car fast mantra with a few tweaks

I forgot about the quest. I found the crash test footage of the mirage while looking up crash test footage of my car. There's a huge difference between a car that ranks poor and good.

They've sold over 14,000 Mirages as of October. Tiny by most automakers' standards, but a relative hit for Mitsubishi. Given that Americans still prefer notchbacks over hatchbacks, this might actually do pretty well.

The question will be will it add to Mirage sales, or just take sales that would otherwise have gone to the hatch.

I don't like it. The hatch is better. If they were going to go with a trunk, they should make a two-door so the trunk doesn't look like a tacked-on lump.

But if it sells (you know the people who hate hatches here—to those people, ugh) and keeps Mitsu afloat so they can maybe...maybe release some cooler stuff soon, I'm good with it.

The Mirage hatch looks like a butt-ton of fun, TBH.

My girlfriend's Mom picked up a manual hatch. I was still suggesting Fiesta really hard but it isn't as terrible as I would have expected. If they can make them significantly cheaper than the Fiesta here (like they do there) it wouldn't be so bad.
